ANTONIO LOPEZ (1943-1988): FASHION STUDY

ANTONIO LOPEZ (1943-1988): FASHION STUDY

Ink and cray-pas on paper, 1975, unsigned, dated and inscribed 'Sak's' lower left. 42 x 30 1/2 in. (sight), 50 1/2 x 37 1/2 in. (frame). Note: Antonio and his partner Juan Ramos worked extensively in Japan for over twenty years designing knitwear, clothing and lingerie for big department stores such as Daimaru and Laforet, and for the Japanese magazine Knit Fashion Now

. Their work was widely known and coveted in Japan where they were pop-culture stars. This drawing (as well as lots 13, 14,31, 32, 44, and 45) was made in NYC and sent to Japan for publication in Knit Fashion Now.

The Magazine had commissioned Antonio and Juan to design knitwear and coats, giving them free reign to create whatever they liked. This drawing (and lot 45) are inscribed 'Sak's' but were most likely made as part of a pitch for a Japanese company. At the time, Antonio was creating ads for Saks Fifth Avenue in the New York Times.

Condition: Apparently in very good condition. Not examined out of frame.

Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000
