ANTONIO LOPEZ (1943-1988) AND JUAN RAMOS (1942-1995): FASHION SKETCH FOR AMERICAN VOGUE

ANTONIO LOPEZ (1943-1988) AND JUAN RAMOS (1942-1995): FASHION SKETCH FOR AMERICAN VOGUE

Ink on paper, 1971, with the artist's inkstamp, dated and inscribed '443' on the reverse. 60 x 28 in. (sight), 67 x 33 in. (frame). Note: In 1971, Vogue

editor Carrie Donovan asked Antonio and Juan to participate in a series of seminars held at the Vogue

offices at Condé Nast. Antonio and Juan gave live drawing demonstrations to journalists and fashion buyers using selections from upcoming designer collections. Antonio made the drawings from a live model and Juan then finished each drawing by adding color. One of the models used for some of the sittings was Pat Cleveland. This drawing (as well as lots 6, 19, 29, 30, 47, 51, 55, 56) were made as part of these Vogue

design seminars. In addition to the artist's inkstamp on the reverse, these drawings bear the inkstamp of Charles Manzo who was their agent in Japan. Manzo and his wife, Nao Oishi, began representing Antonio in Japan in the 1960s and remained his sole agent until the death of Juan in 1995. Condition: Some surface soiling and pale staining. Otherwise apparently in good condition. Not examined out of frame.
